Salem Witch Trial

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be accused of being a witch? It isn't something that is a common conversation topic of today, but while i read the story of them, it shocked me of how cruel people can be in times of mistrust and confusion. The trial had started and I didn't really know what to expect. I never thought they would accuse me of being a witch. But everyone knows if you give another name you get to be free. What do I do? Do I say I'm not a witch and be tried for lying? Or confess and be hanged. I remember my last days and nights in the jail, locked up with other innocent woman being accused of something so outrageous. From the people screaming, and people going crazy, it was just a bad situation to be in. Even my friends have turned on me and say they have seen me look at people and they start to act all crazy. I then realize I'm still in the court room just daydreaming. Then they ask me "are you a witch?" I've decided that there isn't any point in lying so I say "no I'm not a witch". They take me away back to my cell and I have to wait until the next morning. I wake up to the voice of the warden coming to retrieve me. It was a slow walk toward the hanging spot where i waited with three others to be hung. Then i was hung. Innocent, and above suspicion.I think it is kind of odd how people moved to the Americas for Religious freedom, and when accused of performing witchcraft, people are getting hung for it.

First Quarter Reflection

Looking back on the first quarter, I think I could have put a lot more effort into my work. I don’t think I grew as a reader too much, because I found myself cramming reading a book into a few short days, not allowing myself to ready very deeply. I think the reading journals helped me though because I could think about what I read and instead of just reading the story, I often found myself asking more questions.
Writing has never been a strong point for me, but I think I have grown when dealing with the fundamentals and stuff. I find that asking myself questions, allows me to come up with better writing subjects.
I believe that I am a pretty good team-player when it comes to group work and such. I try my best to come to the table with ideas and questions for the group that will help us converse about the book or subject that we are talking about.
My goals for next quarter would probably be to not be so lazy, and keep up with my work and reading journals.

1st lit circle connection

During my Elementary school days, there was always this kid who everyone thought was weird. He dressed goofy, talked awkward, and just presented himself differently then others our age. My fourth grade year I had to sit next to the boy whose name was Jacob. The more I got to talking to the kid I realized that he was just like everyone else.

In this book, Freak was always looked at differently by his pears and picked on and such. But like Jacob and I, the more Max got to know Freak, he realized he was just like everyone else, and somewhat even more special.

This made me think that you should not judge people for how they look or dress or act until you actually get to know the person. Peoples personalities are a lot deeper then just appearance.

Lit Circle Discussion

One interesting thread of discussion was a relation of our book Cirque De Freak to a movie series called Underworld. They are a connected because they are both about two different parties of people who are determined to fight for what they believe in wether its right or wrong. It also helps that both stories are about vampires, or non-human things.
